One of the most beautiful color schemes ever employed on the Douglas DC-7B belonged to Pan American – Grace Airways, better known as Panagra. The airline had been formed in 1929 as a joint venture between Pan American Airways and the W. R. Grace shipping company. This scene depicts N51700, Panagra’s first of several DC-7B’s, taking off just after sunset in South America, circa 1955.
